Pont Jean Monnet
The works began in 1808 in the region of Montluçon to end in 1841 with the completion of the section Vierzon-Noyers-sur-Cher. 30 years will have been necessary to build a canal in three branches to 261 km long and containing 97 locks, crossing a part of Bourbonnais, Berry and Touraine, to join finally the side canal in the Loire, so putting the canal in connection with the rest of the French river system.
The Canal of Berry is said by "small size" with locks of 2m70 of wide. small boats have been specially adapted to this canal " the berrichons " in the maximal dimensions of 27,50 m x 2,60 m.
